Feed Your Curiosity is weekly roundup of events in Philadelphia that will broaden your horizons, tantalize your mind, and hopefully sophisticate you into something more than the heathen that you are. Here’s what’s going on this week.
Kelly Writers House
If you love watching live poetry readings, then this is the event for you. Two established poets will be reading their recently published work. It begins at 6 pm and is open to all people.
The Franklin Institute
Do you want to conduct a science experiment while also drinking cocktails? This 21+ event features science demonstrations and quizzo while also holding an array of live music performances. This month’s theme is “Party Like a Rockstar.”
Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant
Want to have a beer and a quality burger while enjoying fiction and poetry? Great, this bi-monthly reading series is holding its January event at this Rittenhouse pub. Solely featuring local artists, the readings will last from 6 to 9 pm.
Philly Improv Theater
This newly-started variety show is premiering at this Center City comedy venue. Featuring a post-apocalyptic theme, the show is sure to be both original and hilarious. It lasts from 10 to 11 pm.
World Cafe Live
This local singer-songwriter is holding a show in the upstairs lounge at this University City venue. It starts at 8 pm.
Arthur Ross Gallery
After viewing the remarkable gallery, come watch two guest speakers hold a conversation at 5:30 pm. One is a professor of contemporary art while the other is himself an artist and photographer. Light drinks will be served after the talk.
Ritz at the Bourse
This midnight screening features a classic anime comedy-adventure film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. There will be English subtitles.
Good Good Comedy
Deemed Philadelphia’s premiere improv troupe, The N Crowd is holding a performance at this Chinatown comedy club. The show lasts from 7 to 8 pm.
This pop-up exhibit features works from over 30 artists, lasting from 7 to 11 pm. Also, there will be live art performances that will appear throughout the night. Wine will be served.
Pennsylvania Convention Center
If you’d like to see over 700 makes and models of cars, then this yearly event is perfect. Starting at 9 am, this event lasts all day and is family-friendly.
The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College
If you’ve been dying to learn the perfect bread recipe, then this is your solution. Lasting from 10 am to 5 pm, you’ll leave this class never needing (or wanting) to buy bread again.
South Street Cinema
Are you craving a vintage monster movie? Well, this one is stuffed with giant spiders, mad scientists, and dancing girls. Tickets for this 7 pm screening are sold at the door.
