Philadelphia is an underrated hotbed for art, science and culture. Home to an array of venues, museums and institutions, there’s really no good excuse to be bored in this city.

Feed Your Curiosity is a weekly roundup of events in Philadelphia that will broaden your horizons, tantalize your mind, and hopefully sophisticate you into something more than the heathen that you are. Here’s what’s going on this week.


Monday, 1.29

Philly Rising Open Mic

World Cafe Live


This series is a weekly talent competition where anyone can display their feats onstage. The winners of the event will be added to a monthly “Best Of” showcase.


Tuesday, 1.30

Americans in Paris

The Union League


This guided lecture focuses on the French architecture’s influence upon American design. Also, it will focus on notable American architects and their contributions to the nation’s buildings.


Wednesday, 1.31

Santa Sangre: Genre 101



This monthly series features a viewing of critically-acclaimed genre classics. Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1989 masterpiece about a young circus performer will be screened at 7:30 pm.


Shifting the Gaze: Women in Music

Kelly Writers House


Are you interested in both women and the music industry? Well, this event combines both. This free series focuses on the challenges that women and other marginalized groups have faced in the industry.


You Can’t Kill A Poet

South Philly Branch of the Free Library


This event brings together queer issues and art. Come out and support queer artists as they share their art and stories at this 6:30 pm reading.


Thursday, 2.1

Space Pulse Pattern Presence



This experimental art performance uses sound and movement to explore themes of alienation and technology. Come out to the first showing at 8 pm.


Mala Prayer Bead Making Workshop

Kaya Aerial Yoga


If you’re interested in yoga and would like to learn another way of meditating, then this class can help. Starting at 8 pm, visitors will learn how to make their own Mala prayer beads. All supplies included.


Friday, 2.2

Winter Opening Celebration

Institute of Contemporary Art


At 6:30 pm the ICA is holding a celebration for its debut of a new winter exhibit: Proposals on Queer Play and the Ways Forward. Complimentary snacks and drinks will be provided.


Philly Pigeon Poetry Slam Feat: Noel Quiñones


$10 to $15

This monthly poetry slam selects contestants from a hat and has them compete in this exciting local series. The audience will judge the performances and select the winner.

My Chemical Slow Dance

The Fillmore Philadelphia


If you’ve been missing grown out side bangs and Hot Topic band tees, then this event will satisfy your nostalgia. Bring a date or a friend to this 21+ event and come to the emo prom, starting at 10 pm.


6 Underground – ’90s Alt Dance Party

Kung Fu Necktie


Anything from Bjork to The Cranberries is fair game at this ’90s alternative dance party. Starting at 10:30 pm, the event is 21+ and lasts until 2 am.


Sunday, 2.4

Predator (1987)

The Trocadero


Want to drink craft beer while watching an a sci-fi classic? Great, then come out to this 8 pm screening. Food, drinks and board games will be available.
