Summer Guide To Outdoor Movies In Philadelphia

Whether you’re watching something new, or for the millionth time, it’s easy to get sucked into a good film. Now that it’s summer, you get to enjoy this luxury outdoors.

This list includes movie showings of all different genres at outdoor venues and parks this summer in Philadelphia. Some of the places offer complimentary snacks, some will have food trucks, and most of them are free of charge.

For the most part, all you need to bring is a blanket or a chair, and some friends to watch with.

1. Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing 

Thursdays from July 6 to August 31

8:30 pm


Cool venue right on the water with awesome views. This an ideal place to spend time this summer.

2. Schuylkill Banks

Thursdays through August 10

Not playing July 6

8:30 pm


Get to the shows early to participate in a free raffle with a chance to win gift cards. There will also be snacks and drinks available on first-come, first-served basis.

Schuylkill Banks movies take place on either side of the river. The schedule is as follows:

3. The Dell Music Center

For these shows, you can forget the blankets. Outdoor seats are available.

4. Clark Park

Fridays from August 4 to September 1

8 pm


Enjoy food from several vendors. There will be activities and promotions going on as well.

5. Dilworth Park

Fridays from July 21 to August 25

8:30 pm


Pictures In the Park is where you want to spend your summer Friday nights. Complete movie lineup will be posted to the website site soon.

6. The Schmidt’s Commons

Thursdays through July 27

Not playing June 22, 29 and July 20.

Located in Northern Liberties and is a BYOC (bring your own chair) event.


7. La Peg at Fringearts

Wednesdays through August 30

8:30 pm


You can buy food and drinks from La Peg and Haas Biergarten before the show. All of the films being shown are from the late ’80s to ’90s.


8. Franklin Square

July 3 and every other Saturday from July 8 to August 19

8:30 pm


Get there early to play mini-golf before the show starts and treat yourself to Square Burger.

9. Art Museum Steps

July 2

9 pm


You guessed it. Watch a free screening of Rocky on the steps of the Art Museum. Giveaways will be going on too.


10. Friends of Hawthorne Park

June 30, July 28, and August 25

7:30 pm


All movies shown are family friendly so kids are welcome to watch the movies too.


11. Bartram’s Garden

Some Fridays through September

Playing June 23, July 14, August 4 and 18, and September 22

8:30 pm


Arrive at 7:30 pm for a free twilight tour of the garden before the movie starts.


12. The Watertown Rec

Fridays in August


7:30 pm

Each week a different food truck will be there. A family-friendly environment.


13. Manayunk Main Street

June 29, July 27, and August 31

8:30 pm


Movies are part of Stroll the Street festivities. Enjoy food trucks and street sales. The actual events start at 5 pm, but stick around for the movie once the sun starts to set.


14. The Mann Center

June 24, July 22, and August 17

The soundtrack of each movie is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Though attending one of these shows might be a little pricy, it’s definitely worth it.


15. Betsy Ross House

First Friday in July, August, September, and October

Come early to play Philadelphia trivia and a tour of the Betsy Ross House before show time.

16. Pennypack on the Delaware Park

Thursdays from July 13 to August 24

Not playing: July 20 and August 3

Stop by selected Thursday nights for free shows and kid-friendly activities.

17. XFINITY Live!

July 18

5 pm


Ticket proceeds will go toward the Ronald McDonald House. Several kid-friendly activities.

18. Laurel Hill Cemetery

July 28, August 18, and September 8

Pack your own snacks and drinks if you’d like, but treats will be available for purchase. Buying tickets ahead of time is suggested.

19. Palmer Park

June 26

8:30 pm


One time only event this summer at Palmer Park. Friends of Fishtown will be selling popcorn and drinks. Kid and family friendly.
